DYCM8 changes the tool and mold usage environment
The mold usage environment changes with the market environment. Order-to-delivery time is one aspect that is changing and is getting shorter. This ultimately means that on-time delivery and durability of mold making reliability are taken more seriously. The product materials currently used place more demands on molds and the tool and die steel used to produce them. For example, high-strength steel plates are now used for automotive parts, which put forward additional requirements in terms of resistance to chipping and cracking, compressive strength and wear resistance. requirements.
At present, the traditional 12% Cr steel for general cold work tool and die steel, such as AISI D2 or SKD11, is still the mainstream of cold work tool and die steel, but their limitations are becoming more and more obvious as the production environment changes.
DYCM8 is SDWST’s latest 8%Cr steel. After careful comparison of its performance characteristics, the result is a very versatile tool and die steel that overcomes the limitations of 12% Cr steel. Multi-purpose tool and die steel DYCM8 has better performance than 12% Cr steel and has wider uses. It has better machinability, grindability and hardenability, and allows for easy minor weld repairs. This shows that for faster mold processing, better mold performance and easy maintenance, DYCM8 is the right choice.
11 reasons why DYCM8 is cost-effective:
1. 8% chromium alloy composition optimized tool steel
2. High toughness and excellent compressive strength
3. High resistance to abrasive wear
4. Adding special alloy has excellent anti-adhesive wear properties
5. Excellent resistance to tempering and softening
6. Good electrical discharge machinability
7. Secondary hardening cold work tool steel with good dimensional stability
8. Suitable for salt bath, gas or ion nitriding
9. Can be used for physical evaporation coating
10. Suitable for vacuum furnace heat treatment
11. Due to the improvement of chemical composition and smelting process, compared with 12% ledeburite chromium steel and ordinary 8% Cr steel with traditional smelting process, it has more fine and uniform carbides, so it has excellent toughness.

application
DYCM8 is a multi-purpose cold work tool steel with good resistance to mixed/abrasive wear and chipping. And it still has high hardness (>HRC60) after high-temperature tempering, which means that surface treatments such as nitriding or PVD can be performed on high-hardness substrates. Also, for starting from 60HRC
Using wire cutting to cut molds with complex shapes on the above large sections can reduce the risk of cracking.
DYCM8 is mainly used for molds with medium production volumes that require good resistance to abrasive particles or mixed wear and good chipping resistance.
